I tasted the Retronaut in June 2018 at the Blogger meeting with Marco Bonn at the Brühler Whiskyhaus and was
delighted. I still remember talking to Whisky Jason about it. He wasn't too impressed, I thought it was really good. This Irish Whisky (right, without 'e') was aged for 17 years in ex-Bourbon
Casks.
It is a limited edition bottling of the Blackwater Distillery, West Waterford, on the banks of the Blackwater River. The bottling is limited to 1160 bottles and was released
as an independent bottling to celebrate the purchase of the company building in Ballyduff. The opening of the distillery was planned for summer 2018 (so, as so often with the Irish, no bottling
of the distillery's own whiskey). There are currently only 5 types of gin on offer. A job as a whisky distiller was advertised in July.
46 % Vol - Irish Single Malt - 17 years - Ex-Bourbon Casks - bottle 458 of 1160
Color: Gold.
Aroma: Light fruit. Pineapple, coconut. A light honey sweetness. Some ginger and a little fresh mint. In addition there is a slightly musty wooden box and leather.
Taste: Pineapple and ginger. On the background the honey. Toasted cereals and spicy wood. Creamy and warming in the mouth.
Finish: Long and honey sweet.
Conclusion: It is just as good as I remember it. A very pleasant drink with a great mouth feel.
